Assimilation Ministry

The Assimilation Ministry was started by Dr. Robert W. Perry in April of 2007 in an attempt to help new members feel at home at Union Baptist Church by incorporating them into the life, the emotion and the ministry of this congregation. The mission of the Assimilation Ministry is to help new members move from simply attending to becoming active members of the Union Baptist Church family. Autumn Gold Ministry

The Autumn Gold Ministry offers activities and trips that provide fellowship, food and fun to Senior Citizens in the community. The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month in the UBC Fellowship Hall. Brenda Sanderson, Doreen Sundar and Minister Victor Hill are the contacts.

Christian Education

The Christian Education Ministry is an umbrella ministry whose purpose is to teach, grow and mature Christians at Union Baptist Church. Minister Victor Hill and Minister Jenice Jeter are the contacts.

Deaconess Ministry

The Deaconess Ministry works with the Deacons, the Pastor and the Ministerial Staff to care for the UBC membership through home and hospital visits, phone calls, cards, a Special Communion Service and Luncheon, and intercessory prayer. The Deaconess Ministry ensures that the two great ordinances of the Baptist Church are carried out. They are Baptism and Holy Communion. Deaconess Gwen Edwards is the contact person.

Greeters Ministry

Therefore, welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the Glory of God. Roman 15:9 The Greeter’s Ministry is SERVANT focused, and we glorify GOD by creating a loving and welcoming spiritual atmosphere where both visitors and members feel accepted. As UBC Greeter’s, we pride ourselves in serving prayerfully, willingly, lovingly and joyfully. Some of the ways in which we serve are: Greet guests and church members at the 10:30 AM service each Sunday. Serve as Worship Leader along with the Missionary Ministry on 5th Sundays. Host a Prayer Breakfast in October of each year along with the Missionary Ministry. Assist the Deacons and Deaconesses with the Special Communion Service and Luncheon held in September of each year. Feed the homeless at the Men’s Shelter on Pacific Street, once yearly. Participate in “special events” hosted by other ministries as requests are received. Grief Ministry

The Grief Ministry provides prayer and support to those dealing with  the loss of a loved one. The contact persons are Minister Victor Hill, Doreen Sundar, Catherine Stephenson and Janice Major.

Helping Hand Ministry

WHEN YOU NEED A HELPING HAND: In a time of need it is often hard to manage the business of everyday living. If persons are facing such a time, the Helping Hand Ministry of Union Baptist Church is present to offer assistance. Sometimes help with a few tasks, whether they are simple or complex can make a big difference in one’s life. Members of the Helping Hand Ministry are available to reach out to church members with provisions and accommodations for those requiring help. The historical early church membership serves as an example of those who would come together and share with those in need. We are to be the Hands of Christ willing to help others. No one should feel alone, since we have a God who loves us all. The Helping Hand Ministry meets the 3rd Tuesday’s of each month. Sondra Durant is the contact person.

Hospital and Nursing Home Ministry

The Hospital and Nursing Home Ministry provides visitations, prayer and support to those homebound, hospitalized and in nursing homes. Contact the church office at (203) 322-0881 for assistance.

Men’s Ministry

The Men’s Ministry provides fellowship to men to enrich themselves spiritually through open and honest testimonies and discussions, Christian education, and prayer. We also offer fellowship opportunities through social activities such as fishing trips, trips to area games, and community engagement. The contact persons are Deacon Sulani Watkins and Deacon Robert King.

Missionary Ministry

The Dorcas Home and Foreign Missionary Ministry offers prayer and comfort to all. Missionary Ministry members have taken food to the Family Shelter on Franklin Street in Stamford and to the Inspirica Women’s Shelter in Stamford. The contact person is Hope Brinkley.

Music Ministry

At Union Baptist Church we are blessed to have a diverse, high-quality Music Ministry. We have three long-time Musicians/Directors: one has been with us for more than forty years, one more than thirty years, and the other for more than twenty-three years. In addition to our Directors, there are three additional Musicians and three Assistant Musicians. We have eight choirs that provide versatile and inspiring music for our church family and the local community. Our Sanctuary Choir sings Anthems, Spirituals and Gospel selections on the first and third Sundays of each month. The UBC Gospel Choir sings traditional and contemporary Gospel music on the first, second and fourth Sundays of each month. Our Men’s Choir sings on the second Sunday, and the Women’s Choir sings on the third Sunday of each month. The Youth and Children’s Choirs sing on the fourth Sunday of each month. Also, there is a Mass Choir that sings for Church programs and special events. In addition, we have volunteer members of the choirs and congregation who sing on our Praise Team each Sunday. We invite all interested persons to join our Choirs/Praise Team. There are no auditions required for choir participation. Nurses Ministry

The Nurses Ministry members provide care, comfort and support to all who come to the Union Baptist Church. Members of the Nurses Ministry are on duty at every regularly scheduled service, and most funerals and special events. The Nurses Ministry meets on a per need basis. The Nurses Ministry desires to be an intricate part of the lifeline Examination Process which have been conducted on an annual basis at Union Baptist Church in Coordination with hospital resources within the community. Parking and Transportation Ministry

The Parking and Transportation Ministry was developed to facilitate UBC’s growing need for transportation and offsite parking. We provide safe and fluid access routes in and out of the church so that all who come feel welcome. When the need arises, we provide transportation to and from our offsite parking lot. We use the UBC shuttle bus to help those in need of a ride for Sunday service, for the sick and shut-in on their special services, for UBC youth activities and on occasions when the UBC family fellowships with other churches. We meet the 4th Saturday of the month as needed. Deacon Rod Thomas and Deacon Dennis Hope are the contact persons.

Prison/Angel Tree Ministry

The Prison Ministry provides prayer and support to the incarcerated and their families. We offer counseling and mentoring to those newly released back into the community. Through Angel Tree we provide Christmas gifts to the children of the incarcerated. Wanda Roach is the contact person.

Progressive Adult Ministry

The Progressive Adults Ministry is a Ministry where we come together in fellowship. Our gatherings include different themed nights, such as Bible night, game night, international pot luck nights, and more! We meet every second Friday of the month. Please join us! Senior Ushers Ministry

Ushering is the ministry of making the Union Baptist Church members and/or visitors feel comfortable and lending spiritual dignity to the Union Baptist Church services. We are always ready to serve, (Colossians 3:24). The Senior Ushers meet the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm. 

Sister 2 Sister Book Club

The Sister2Sister book Club is a group of UBC ladies who meet on the 4th Tuesday every other month and read books or literature by Christian based black authors. Karen Austin-Williams is the contact person.

Social Media/Public Relations

We use all available resources and technologies to make known the Gospel of Jesus Christ as we develop and upgrade our digital and technological capabilities. We work to ensure that the Union Baptist Church’s on-line and social media presence reflects God’s will and supports the Union Baptist Church’s Mission, Ministry and Members. Sound/Video Ministry

The Sound Ministry’s Mission is to enhance the Worship experience by ensuring all the sound and the video are of top quality. Also, we record the worship services and concerts, then we provide CDs or DVDs upon request. We know that faith comes by hearing and believing in the preached word and the ministering by songs of praise and worship, which are two of the most important tools for a church service. Ultimately, our major goal is to provide an audio experience that is worthy of the worship of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Trustee Winfred Mitchell and Deacon Robert Fisher are the contacts.

Travel/Transportation Ministry

This ministry provides transportation to various church events including worship services at sister churches and gospel concerts. Meetings are scheduled as needed. Monique Christie is the contact person.

Women’s Ministry

The Women’s Ministry of Union Baptist Church is committed with an ongoing effort to connect with the women of our church, community, and world. We intend to serve, assist, and encourage each other in glorifying, and growing our relationships with God. The Women’s Ministry meets the second Tuesday of the month.
