Reverend Synethia Epps
Reverend Synethia Epps is a native of Gray Court, South Carolina. She is the daughter of the late Lucille Campbell and Jimmie L. Sullivan. She accepted Christ in her life and was baptized at the age of fifteen at Mill Rock Baptist Church Gray Court, South Carolina. She graduated from Sanders High School in Laurens, SC and subsequently graduated from Morris College in Sumter, SC in the year of 1962 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Math and Science.
Reverend Epps relocated to Stamford, CT in September of 1962, where she joined Union Baptist Church on christian experience in the same month and year. Under the leadership of Reverend Charles J. Sargent she was an assistant church school teacher to Mrs. Ducksworth, until she wed Joseph A. Epps in December of 1964 and they relocated to Junction City, Kansas. Six months later she returned to Stamford due to her husband’s deployment to Vietnam. Upon her return to Stamford and reinstatement to Union Baptist Church, she joined the Nurse’s Ministry under the guidance of Reverend Dr. Robert W. Perry, where she was faithful and dedicated. Reverend Epps served as Vice-President of the ministry on an interim basis and was voted to President in November of 1987, where she served for nine years. She also was a member of the Voices of Deliverance Choir for the healing service, in addition to, being a member of the Prayer Band. She was a certified American Red Cross CPR and First Aid instructor. She also was the first to organize the Breast Cancer mobile screening unit.
Reverend Epps studied at Hartford Seminary and is enrolled in the Masters of Divinity program at Alliance Theological Seminary in Nyack, NY.
Reverend Epps accepted her call into the ministry and was licensed to preach in October 1993 by Reverend Dr. Robert W. Perry and was later ordained into the gospel ministry by Reverend Perry in November of 2012.
She was employed as a Math and Science teacher in the Connecticut school system in the Towns of Norwalk and Stamford.
Reverend Epps was the recipient of the Union Baptist Church Ministry Appreciation Award in October of 2015, for her dedication of service to Union Baptist Church and the people of the Community.
Reverend Epps is the facilitator of the Union Baptist Church-on-Wheels Service, which provides ministry services to individuals of various backgrounds, through singing and sermonettes. One of Reverend Epps’ favorite scriptures is Psalm 138.
On December 26, 1964, Reverend Epps joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Joseph A. Epps in Stamford, CT. From their union: were two sons, Stacey and Anthony, and one daughter: Alethea, and one grandson: Joseph Alonzo Epps.
